Sergeant Major Gerard “Jerry” Thomas Infanger, 75 of Spring Lake, North Carolina, passed away on Monday August 8, 2022 at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn, North Carolina.

Jerry was born on October 15, 1946 in Jamaica Queens, New York to the late Frederick and Dorothy Infanger. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife Doris Davis Infanger.

Jerry graduated from Deer Park High School, Long Island, NY in 1964. He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Boston, MA, where he studied chemistry until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967. After enlisting, he was selected to attend Officer Candidate School and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Jerry attended Engineer Officer Candidate and the Special Forces Officer Candidate Courses. After the Vietnam War, CPT Infanger resigned his commission and separated from Active Duty. In 1979, Jerry reenlisted for Active Duty service until his retirement in 1993 as Sergeant Major Infanger. Jerry’s military training includes Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, Engineer Officers Candidate Course, Special Forces Officers Candidate Course, Engineer Officers Advanced Course, Special Forces Military Freefall Jumpmaster Course, Special Operations Training, Rough Terrain Parachute Course, and Sergeants Major Academy.

Jerry’s awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with 3 Oak Leaf Cluster), Master Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Jump Wings, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Civil Action Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Special Forces Tab, Philippine Parachute Badge, Army Superior Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Panama).

Jerry is survived by his children; Timothy Warren, Kristin Kuryla (Joseph); step-daughter, Kimberly McKay (Jeffrey), and step-son, James Herron (Christina), sisters; Patricia Walling (George), Carol Zagari (John), Dorothy Viscupic , brother; Daniel Infanger (Maria); ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 9:00 am at Adcock Funeral Home, 2226 Lillington Highway Spring Lake, NC.  Interment will immediately follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. There will be a visitation on Monday, August 15, 2022 from 4:00 to 6:00PM at Adcock Funeral Home, Spring Lake, NC.
