Graduation 2023

‘Greater horizons’ lie ahead, Westover High valedictorian tells her classmates

Posted

More than 900 high school seniors received their diplomas Tuesday as four more Cumberland County schools held commencement exercises.

The ceremonies were held at the Crown Coliseum.

Valedictorian Joan Kariuki of Westover High School told her classmates that the future offers great promise.

“After four long, arduous years, we have reached the end of our high school lives and are embarking onto far greater horizons,” Kariuki said. “Some of us are going to college or the military or straight into the workforce. And some of us have other greater plans that aren’t any that I have listed. Whatever our next step is, we have completed one chapter of our lives, and we should be proud of all the hard work that brought us here.”
