Cheerleader proud of success at Gray’s Creek High School

Posted

Each year, Cumberland County Schools names a graduating senior at each high school as a Standout Senior. The 17 2023 Standout Seniors are bright, hard-working students who have overcome the odds to graduate and dedicate themselves to serving their community.

Moesha Young will graduate from Gray’s Creek High School. She answered these questions about her education and her future.

  • What accomplishment are you most proud of or what do you want to be remembered for?

My proudest accomplishment is trying out for cheerleading at Gray’s Creek High School and being the first handicapped cheerleader for the school.

  • What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to attend UNC-Pembroke and major in elementary education.

  • Please list your extracurricular activities and tell us about your favorite.

Cheerleading, GEMS Club and work. Cheer has changed my life in so many ways. It is my favorite extracurricular as I have met so many people. I also love the confidence it has given me and the opportunity to travel around.

  • Do you have a self-statement or a favorite quote that best describes you and your aspirations for the future?

“Remember: There is always a little girl in the crowd who wants to be just like you.”

  • How do you feel Cumberland County Schools has prepared you for your future?

They have helped me better my education and blessed me with so many opportunities.

  • Is there someone on staff in the school system (a teacher, administrator, coach, etc.) who has made a lasting impression on you? What lesson did they teach you that you will always remember?

The staff member who has made a lasting impression on me is Stephanie French, who is my teacher and cheer coach. She always encouraged me to be myself and to never change who I am.

  • What elementary school did you attend?

I attended Alderman Road Elementary School in Fayetteville.
