Hilda “Gibsie” Dees Melton, age 88, passed away and entered Heaven on September 4, 2022.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Gentry Dees and Evelyn Wallace Dees; husband, James “Buck” Melton; son, James L. Melton; sisters, Edith Dees Pridgen, Maxine Dees Smith, Ida Jean Dees Parker, and brothers, Charles G. Dees, Jr., and Robert “Bobby” Dees. She is survived by her sons, Franklin Gregg Melton and wife, Donna, Mel G. Melton and wife, Andrea. Additionally, Grandsons, Jason W. Melton, Bryan G.S. Melton; granddaughters, Melanie Melton Wettlaufer, Regina Nicole Gardner, Tara Scheidt Fung, Sarah Melton Lewis, Stephanie A. Melton, Haley Elizabeth Melton, and Chloe Melton Poleshuk. She was also blessed to have 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hilda was retired from the Cumberland County Clerks office as well as being a lifelong resident of Cumberland County. A graduate of Massey Hill High School, class of 1952 she was a proud “Pirate”.
A memorial service will be held at Carroll Memorial Baptist Church, Fayetteville, NC on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends prior the memorial service from 11:30 to 12:45 PM in the sanctuary of Carroll Memorial Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Carroll Memorial Baptist Church, 2220 Camden Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28306.
