History museum features St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church for Black History Month

Posted

St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church is the subject of a Black History Month exhibit at the Fayetteville History Museum for the month of February.

St. Joseph’s is the oldest African American Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, according to the museum.

Established in 1873, St. Joseph’s is architecturally distinct in downtown Fayetteville, and its history touches the historic Moore Street neighborhood, the museum says in a news release. The church was used as a school, recreation facility, and home for NAACP meetings.

The exhibit will feature collaborative programming with the church.

The history museum, at 325 Franklin St., is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. It is closed on Sunday and Monday.

Admission is free.
