HOPE MILLS - The Hope Mills Board of Commissioners on Monday will consider authorizing the town manager to negotiate with builders for work related to the bathrooms at the Thomas Oakman Campbell Chapel.
The town had to advertise for a new general contractor when the previous contractor resigned from the design team, according to information in the agenda packet. The lowest responsive bid was submitted by DK & Sons Construction Company Inc., according to paperwork in the agenda packet.
The Hope Mills Parks and Recreation department also learned during the town’s plan review process that structural engineering is required for the ADA ramp canopy from the chapel to the bathrooms. That was not included in the original design scope, the paperwork said.
The board will consider authorizing Town Manager Scott Meszaros to negotiate the adjustments with the builders and pay the extra cost of work associated with the project. As part of that, the board will consider a budget amendment in the amount of approximately $47,000 related to the project.
Under the consent agenda, the board will consider donating surplus vehicles and previously declared surplus radios to the St. Paul’s Police Department.
The St. Paul’s Police Department partners with the town and allows the Hope Mills Police Department to use its gun range free of charge.
“This is a saving for our department as we now pay $500 a day to use our current range,’’ Police Chief Stephen Dollinger says in an agenda form to the town manager.
The board also has a closed session on the agenda related to the acquisition of real property and attorney-client privilege.
The board meets at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
