Summer is finally underway and a highlight in this issue for me was my ride-along with the Fayetteville Police Department's bike patrol. With a view from behind my handlebars, cruising the downtown streets, it turned out to be an insightful afternoon. It made me rethink a mid-life career switch meeting the fine people that serve in 'the other' uniform in our community. - Kelly
I am so excited and blessed to be a part of the CityView team. Even though I have only been in Fayetteville less than eight weeks, I feel completely immersed in the lifestyle here…and love it! This city is truly "All-America" and I am looking forward to meeting more of you in the community and telling your stories. - Miriam
Kicking off summer, Sandee and I presented our 8th annual Robert Lyon Waren (Bob) Award at Fayetteville Academy’s ceremony for seniors. Following our son’s death in 2006 to kidney cancer, the Academy faculty and staff asked us to present the award as a way to honor Bob for his own accolades throughout the years. Like Bob, he was president of the junior class and a finalist for the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship. Brooks also accomplished the feat of having a 98.7 grade point average. In starting a new tradition, CityView will recognize the winner on these pages each year. This year’s award winner is Brooks Keener, the son of Millie and Jim Keener. Congratulations to Brooks for a job well done.
Our senior editor, Rebekah Sanderlin had done a stellar job for three years with our company and we are sorry she has moved to Florida with her husband’s military assignment. We will greatly miss her talents, but expect her to write for us from time to time. Also, we have lost our administrator Anne Ancona, whose husband finished his tour of duty and they moved back to his hometown in California.
Bringing the same spirit and work ethic to CityView we welcome two new employees. Miriam Landru, our associate editor, comes from a similar professional background in Hawaii. She worked for several publications and was a producer for a morning news show. Hailing from Texas, Jordan Williams is doing a great job of filling Anne’s heels. Be sure to welcome Miriam and Jordan when you see them around as they contribute their talents to our publication for years to come.
