James Alfred Brewington, 81, of Fayetteville, passed away on April 7, 2023. James was born Jan. 23, 1942, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was very involved in local and state businesses starting in 1961 when he founded Fayetteville Flooring Co. He contracted with large U.S. government and defense projects out of Fort Bragg and other Army bases. He formed multiple businesses including Navajo Flooring, a convenience store, and a paint and appliance store, and he took over Massey Hill Hardware for more than 20 years. He branched out into general contracting in building and real estate holdings. In addition, he was renowned as a hard-working investor and was never one to shy away from a challenge. He received several accolades as a minority business owner, among several other distinctions.

Through all these accomplishments, James held his family and extended family close and loved them dearly. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kay Frances Brewington; his daughters, Sherry Lynn Wilkerson and Tracie Nicole DeCarlo and her husband, Mark DeCarlo; grandchildren, Taylor Henrickson and husband, Andrew Henrickson; Bryce DeCarlo; Gavin Wilkerson; and Ansley Wilkerson; and great-granddaughter, Mary Frances Henrickson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius Alfred Brewington and Olla Mae ‎Brewington, and three brothers, Gerald Wayne Brewington, Bobby Eugene Brewington, and Tony Ricky Brewington. He is also survived by his brother, Warren Brewington; sisters, Omelia Solorzano of Fayetteville and Gloria Gibbs and husband,  Leonard, of Alpharetta; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Rogers and Breece Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Lafayette Memorial Park.
