James Marcus Cary, 89, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Mark was born in Fayetteville, NC on September 5, 1935, to the late Harry and Mary (Raspberry) Cary.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Doug and Donnie, his sister Juanita and his daughter Lisa (Brad).
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Joan of 43 years. A son Gregg (Theresa) Henderson, NC, son-in-law Bradley (Lisa) Lillington, NC, Daughters Monica (Scott) Palm Harbor, FL and Renee (Patrick) Raeford, NC. Grandchildren Joshua (Amber) Stephanie, Michael (Victoria), Timothy, Zachery (Anne Rene), Patrick and Katie (Anthony). Greatgrandchildren Kaylee, Carter, Annabella, Scarlett, Everly, Nolan, Hayden, Heath and Harrison.
Mark served alongside of his wife for 19 years in the Awana’s program at Aaron Lakes Baptist church. He taught Sunday school for 24 years, was the treasurer of the church for 24 years, and served on many other ministries in the church. He was a coach with the Tokay Recreation center for many years. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed baseball, basketball and bowling.
Mark served his country in the US Air Force for 4 years and then served as the Chief Administrator, JFK Special Warfare Division, 1st Socom for 40 years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 4PM at Northside Baptist Church, 7455 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC, 28311. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Northside Baptist Church in honor of Mark and his love of God.
