Jean Underwood Robinson, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, March 18, 2023. Jean was born June 7, 1931, in Carthage, N.C.
She graduated from Flora MacDonald College with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She later went on to receive a master's degree in early childhood education, as well as an administrative certification. After college, she worked as a teacher and assistant principal in Rockingham for four years and in the Fort Bragg school system for 32 years. She loved teaching and working with children.
Jean was a loyal member of Highland Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, Stephen minister and Sunday school teacher. She was a beloved member of the Emma Lee Howie Sunday School Class and Circle No. 6 at the church. She also received an honorary life membership in Women of the Church. Together with her late husband, Bill J. Robinson, she started and sponsored an ongoing biweekly bridge group at the church. Jean loved music and was an enthusiastic member of the church Chancel Choir and the Handbell Choir.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Sherwood Underwood and Margaret Brown Underwood; her husband, Bill Jones Robinson; and her son, Mark Brown Robinson. She is survived by her son, John Robinson and his wife, Betsy, of Durham; daughter, Kathryn Powell and her husband, Scot, of Asheville; five grandchildren, Sarah, Emma, Lauren, Nicole and Mark; and three great-grandchildren, Lyla, Lucas and Eliot.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Highland Presbyterian Church Food Pantry or the church music program.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Highland Presbyterian Church. A reception will be held after the memorial service in the fellowship hall.
