Johnnie Lee Braxton
April 22, 1956 – August 7, 2022
When God calls, we answer and so it was with our loved one Sunday evening August 7, 2022. God called our beloved brother, Johnnie Lee Braxton, and he answered the call.
Johnnie was born April 18, 1956, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital to the late Leroy Braxton, Sr. and Annie Elizabeth Evans Braxton of Fay., NC. Johnnie attended Cumberland County Public Schools and graduated from Seventy-First High School in 1975. Johnnie was employed by Sanford Milling Company after high school before becoming disabled. Unable to sit still, he often maintained the yards of the elderly in the neighborhood. Failing health eventually rendered him immobile and he spent the last years of his life in Carolina Rehab Center of Cumberland. Although faced with many obstacles throughout his short life, Johnnie refused to give up. He fought to the very end.
The eldest of 8 children, he leaves to cherish his memory: Louis Edward Braxton (Betty), Leroy Braxton, Jr (Faye), Shirley Braxton-McLaurin (Reginald), Howard Lee Braxton, Mary Jane Braxton, all of Fayetteville, NC, and Terry Lamont Smith of New York. Our sister, Elizabeth Irene McNeill (William) preceded him in death in 2017, along with his nephew Justin Demario Braxton (Renee). Although Johnnie had no children of his own, he was loved as a father by his many nieces and nephews. He has a host of relatives and friends who will help to carry on the memories of his laughter and caring spirit.
Johnnie’s homegoing services will take place Friday, August 19, 2022 at 1:00 with visitation at 12:00. Pastor Tre’Vone McNeill – True Vine Ministries, Officiating
