
Petty Officer 2nd Class Jonathan Lofton Blue, 38, of Fayetteville, N.C., died Friday, July 1, 2023, at his residence.
Jonathan was born Aug. 20, 1984, in Fayetteville to Henry Franklin Blue and Patsy Ann Biggs Collins. He was a much-loved son and a wonderful father and loved by so many!
Jonathan was a devoted member of the United States Navy and a distinguished aviation electrician mate. He leaves behind a legacy of honorable service, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to his country. Jonathan’s indomitable spirit and exemplary contributions will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jonathan Blue answered the call to serve his nation and enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 2006 to 2013. He wholeheartedly embraced his role as an aviation electrician mate, demonstrating exceptional skill, expertise, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. As a vital member of Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 53 (VR–53), Jonathan’s contributions were instrumental in ensuring the readiness and effectiveness of the squadron’s aircraft.
Throughout his military career, Jonathan selflessly embarked on 12 deployments, demonstrating his courage and devotion to duty. In recognition of his exceptional service and outstanding performance, he was honored with four commendations for his actions both at home and abroad. Jonathan’s unwavering dedication to his mission and his fellow service members earned him respect and admiration of his colleagues and superiors.
Jonathan’s ability to fix airborne systems is overshadowed only by his personal impact on those fortunate enough to work with him, no matter the country, no matter the aircraft, no matter the mission. He was a gifted communicator and established a large network of connections around the globe due to his spirited ability to meaningfully connect with the people he encountered from all walks of life.
Jonathan was a passionate aerospace engineer. His zest for problem solving distinguished him as a creative, determined and fearless engineer in the truest form. Jonathan was a critical team member on many of the U.S. Army’s Airborne Intelligence programs. He became the “go to” person in some of the most austere environments because of his technical ability, ingenuity, and charisma. He worked best under pressure; it focused him when others would fade. Jonathan excelled in every position he was placed -– be it a deployed forward site representative, international negotiator, or mentor to newcomers.
Jonathan is survived by a son, Jackson Lofton Blue; mother, Patsy B. Collins (and husband ,Tommy); father, Henry Franklin Blue; and stepsister, Courtney Leigh Collins.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Lafayette Memorial Park, 2301 Ramsey St., Fayetteville, NC 28301.
