Jorge Weninger, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 27, 1937, in Lima, Peru, to the late Alberto and Hortencia
Weninger, Jorge lived a life marked by dedication to his family and country.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nadhia; his two sons, Eric Weninger and wife, Kristin of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Patrick Weninger and wife, Nilcea of McLean, VA, and his five cherished grandchildren: Ian, Isabella, Blythe, Nadhia, and Gisele. Jorge is also survived by his brothers, Alfonso and Domingo, along with nieces, Susie, Nancy, and Elizabeth; and nephews,
Fonzie, Bud, and Fred, as well as many other relatives and friends who will deeply miss him.

Jorge proudly served in the U.S. Army for nearly 35 years, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4) in 1991 from the 7th Special Forces Group. His distinguished career included multiple overseas assignments, with combat deployments to the Belgian Congo, Dominican Republic, Vietnam, El Salvador, and Panama. A highly decorated officer, Jorge was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart (with one Oak Leaf Cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (with five Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (with four Oak Leaf Clusters), as well as the Combat Infantrymanโ€™s Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, and Vietnam Jump Wings (with Combat Star).

A wake will be held at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home, 500 Ramsey St., Fayetteville, NC, on Friday, September 13, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A memorial service will follow on Saturday, September 14, at 1 p.m. at St. Patrickโ€™s Catholic Church, 2844 Village Dr., Fayetteville, NC. Friends and family are invited to gather in the church hall following the service. Jorge will be laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., with details to be announced at a later date.
