Late Fayetteville businessman honored with $1.5M gift to Methodist University

Posted

Frank P. Stout - an orthodontist, businessman and philanthropist - has been honored with a $1.5 million gift by his family to Methodist University, officials said Monday.

The university also announced that it will recognize Stout by naming two buildings in his honor: the physician assistant academic building and the medical lecture hall.

The Dr. Frank P. Stout Physician Assistant Academic Building has classrooms, simulation exam rooms, a student lounge and faculty/administrative offices. The Dr. Frank P. Stout Medical Lecture Hall has a lecture hall and four breakout classrooms, university officials said in a release.

“Having our PA buildings named in honor of Dr. Frank P. Stout could not be more apropos as both Dr. Stout and Methodist University’s PA Program are about service and science working together for the benefit of others,” Methodist University President Stanley T. Wearden said in the release. “As ‘Dr. Frank’ was dedicated to the health and wellbeing of residents in our community, more than 70 percent of Methodist’s PA Program graduates remain after graduation to work professionally locally and throughout North Carolina.”

The Physician Assistant Program, in its 25th year,  “well represents the understanding of need and selfless contributions Stout shared as a lifelong Fayetteville resident,’’ the release said.

The Stout family and Methodist have a common goal of working to positively influence the community, said Mac Healy, chairman of the university’s Board of Trustees.

Cam Stout, Stout’s son, said his family has been supporters of Methodist University for many years. He said his father served on the Board of Trustees.

“It’s an honor to know the thousands who pass by the PA buildings just off Ramsey Street each day – and certainly the students who enter them to study – will observe the name of a man who dedicated his life to helping others,” Cam Stout said.
