LeRoy Richard “Pete” Overmann, 97, of Fayetteville passed away at the home of his daughter on Friday, November 29, 2024.
Pete was born on October 7, 1927, in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Herman Henry Overmann and Katherine Kuhlmann Overmann.
Pete was an Army Veteran of WWII where he served with the 82nd Airborne for over 6 years. After leaving the Army, Pete worked for the next 38 years with the US Post Office and retired as Postmaster of the Linden Post Office.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary Alice Murphy Overmann.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Overmann Ratley (Steve); grandchildren, Justin Ratley (Amber) and Lauren Ratley Dempster (Drew); great grandchildren, Kyleigh and Kinsley Ratley and Tripp and Ellie Dempster; and sister, Dollie Nauman.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Cape Fear Valley Hospice, especially Ariel Stokes, Janice Logan, Tina Barron, Pastor John Blackmon and Jackie for the exemplary care they extended to him and the family while in their care.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 11-11:45 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home with funeral services at 12 noon in the Chapel. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to a charity of your choice in Pete’s memory.
