Linda Melton West, 75, of Bostic, NC, a devoted educator, mentor, and lifelong advocate for learning passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2025, at Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum, SC. She will be remembered for her compassion, dedication, and a steadfast belief in the power of education to transform lives. 

She was born on Thursday, March 30, 1950, in Bostic, a daughter of the late Herman Daniel Melton and Erma Jones Melton. Linda grew up surrounded by family values rooted in kindness, hard work, and love. She graduated from East Rutherford High School, then continued her studies earning a Bachelor’s degree at Western Carolina University, a Master’s degree in special education from Winthrop University, and a Doctorate in education from Fayetteville State University.

Linda began her teaching career in Pageland, SC and later Greensboro. Linda spent many years as a teacher and administrator with the Cumberland County School System. She was director of special education with the Bladen County school system. She traveled North Carolina as a education specialist for the state school system. After retirement, she did some teaching at Fayetteville State University.

Linda will be remembered for her generous heart, and her devotion to her family. 

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Joseph “Bob” West; her sons, Jonathan West and Nathan West, both of Asheville; her treasured grandson, Elias West; her brother, Lloyd Melton and his wife Nancy, of Bostic; her sisters, Anita Jones of Rutherfordton, and Laura Perkins and her husband Joe, of Fort Pierce, FL; she also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her warmth, encouragement, and kind spirit. 

A Visitation will be held from 3 pm until 5 pm on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held Monday, November 24, 2025, at 11 am at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey St.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
