Margie Broughton Hendrix, born on December 29, 1934, was the beloved daughter of the late William S. Broughton and Gwendoleine Broughton. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 52 years, Jerry Hendrix, whom she married on February 16, 1956, as well as her cherished daughter, Terri Noonan.

Margie’s life was centered around her family, whom she loved deeply. She is survived by two loving sisters: Patsy Bickley and Annie Gunter, both of Aiken, SC. And she is also survived by her children: Marie Warden (Claude Leroy Warden; deceased) of Bennettsville, SC; Richelle Gossman of Birmingham, AL; Tyre Hendrix (Katy) of Pisgah Forest, NC; Derrell Hendrix (Lisa) of Loganville, GA; and Beth Ferstler (Donny) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, and Mary Hendrix of Raleigh, NC.

She was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 10 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride. Her caregivers Neil and Kyle in her later years also held a very special place in her heart.

Margie was a graduate of Aiken High School in Aiken, South Carolina, and later earned her degree from Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina. She then went on to earn her Master’s from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. She dedicated her life long career to teaching, (E. E. Smith senior high school) where she made a lasting impact on her students, who adored her as much as she cared for them.

A woman of deep faith and service, Margie was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church for many years, and later on Haymount United Methodist Church. She gave generously of her time, volunteering with numerous organizations such as the suicide hotline, Pink Lady program, and the community theater, and she often provided transportation for seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Margie was also a vibrant member of her community, participating in groups such as AARP, Retired Teachers, Prime Timers, Road Runners, and the Red Hat Society. Known for her kindness, she frequently prepared and delivered meals to neighbors and those in need, quietly caring for others in meaningful ways.

She found joy in many creative pursuits, including sewing clothes for her family, quilting with her church, knitting, crocheting, making beaded jewelry, and photography, some of which was featured by the Arts Council. She also enjoyed dancing and continued taking lessons at her local community college.

Margie shared a love of travel with her husband, exploring all but one continent, together embracing the beauty of different cultures. She treasured the memories and mementos they gathered along the way.

Above all, Margie will be remembered for her generous spirit, her unwavering love for her family, and her lifelong dedication to serving others.

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters.” Margie has gone home to be with her Lord, her dear husband Jerry, her mother, and her family.

The memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026 at Rogers & Breece Funeral Home located at 500 Ramsey St, Fayetteville, NC 28301.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Broughton Scholarship Fund at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aiken, South Carolina, or to the “Scholarship Fund Broughton Reunion” addressed to Charles Leavitt at  2779 Lynn Mountain Rd. Vale, NC
