Methodist University is celebrating homecoming this weekend with tailgating, a bonfire, fraternity and sorority gatherings — and, of course, football.
Students, faculty and staff members have shown their Monarch pride this week with activities including a homecoming kickoff, “Pie-an-RA,” and a picnic, according to a news release from the university.
Highlights will include a football matchup with the Huntingdon College Hawks at 1 p.m. Saturday at Monarch Stadium; a men’s soccer matchup with the Brevard College Tornados at 3 p.m. Saturday at Duggins Stadium; and a women’s soccer matchup with the N.C. Wesleyan University Battling Bishops at 6 p.m. in Duggins Stadium.
“There’s not a more perfect time to come back on campus if you’re MU alumni,” Taylor Murphy, director of alumni relations, said in the news release. “Not only do alumni get a chance to reminisce and connect with current and past Monarchs, but they get a glimpse into Methodist University’s future.”

Saturday will bring a full day of activities from 8 a.m. into the evening, the release said. They include the alumni awards presentation at 10 a.m.; the alumni tailgate from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; women’s and men’s alumni basketball games at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively; fraternity and sorority tailgates at 11 a.m.; and a chorale “Gathersing” at 9 a.m., according to the news release.
A 30th reunion gathering is planned at 4 p.m. at Last Call Sports Bar, and members of the Black Alumni Chapter will gather at 6 p.m. at Heart & Soul Food and Lounge.
A Sunday morning scholarship brunch hosted by the Black Alumni Chapter will wrap up homecoming.
