N95 masks available at county Health Department

Residents can get free N95 masks at the Cumberland County Department of Public Health while supplies last.

Each person in a household can receive five N95 masks, the county said in a release. The masks are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The mask distribution started Thursday and was expected to continue Friday.

The Health Department received a shipment of 9,600 masks. It provided 3,600 masks to community partners for distribution. The remaining masks will be handed out at the Health Department at 1235 Ramsey St., the release said.

Following a surge in COVID-19 cases in December and January, the percent positivity rate is trending downward but remains high, the release said. Health officials urge residents to get their vaccinations and booster shots and wear a well-fitted mask to help reduce infections and hospitalizations.

Cumberland County’s 14-day percent positivity rate is at 33%, the release said. However, the number of positive cases has dropped in the past three weeks. There were 2,107 cases for the week of Jan. 31 to Feb. 6 compared with 4,775 cases in the previous week, Jan. 24 to Jan. 30, the release said.
