Good morning. At Monday’s Fayetteville City Council meeting, several residents held up signs reading “Community says NO” with a 7-Eleven icon crossed out. They were there to protest against a 7-Eleven being proposed in the College Lakes subdivision, on the corner of the intersection of McArthur Road and Stacy Weaver Drive.

Neighborhood residents have strongly opposed the development of the gas station, highlighting concerns around air pollution and increased traffic at an already busy intersection.

Fayetteville City Council members voted 9-1 to hold a public hearing at a later date on the rezoning request. More in our lead story.

Welcome to CityView Today. New designs for the county’s homeless shelter were unveiled at a Cumberland County Board of Commissioners meeting earlier this week. The revamped plan for the Unhoused Support Center cuts its square footage almost in half and decreases the number of emergency shelter beds by 57. Officials said the larger initial concept would have gone over budget and may have strayed from the center’s original purpose. This weekend, a historical marker will be unveiled by a Virginia live oak tree outside the Airborne & Special Operations Museum. The ceremony marks the U.S. Army’s 250th Anniversary and Fayetteville’s place in the history of the 1775 Liberty Point Resolves.
