Good morning. Fayetteville and Cumberland County will get three early voting sites for this fall’s municipal elections instead of two, the North Carolina State Board of Elections decided yesterday.

The matter was settled after the Cumberland County Board of Elections was unable to decide where to open early voting locations ahead of election day on Nov. 4. While they agreed western Fayetteville’s Cliffdale Recreation Center should be one of the sites, board members butted heads over two proposed locations on the eastern side of the city.

Now, Fayetteville will get all three sites. More in our lead story.

There have been times when the absence of elected officials has had repercussions for the public, writes Paul Woolverton. And in Spring Lake, residents are expressing concern over rising property taxes. Commissioners pointed to the recent county-wide property revaluation, tax collection changes and a post-COVID housing market boom.
