Good morning. During a visit to Fayetteville yesterday, Gov. Josh Stein signed a proclamation for North Carolina to join a new program with other states called “Do Your Part.” The initiative aims to improve support for military families, known as Blue Star families.

Part of this work includes collaborating with the Blue Star Families nonprofit organization, which opened a chapter this year in Fayetteville for the Fort Bragg region.

“Do Your Part is an initiative to encourage states to think holistically about how we can support not only the service members who work in our state, but their families as well,” Stein said during a ceremony at Fayetteville Technical Community College. “North Carolina is committed to being a top state for military and military family members.” More in our lead story.

Welcome to CityView Today. In today’s newsletter: Cumberland County is again funding doula services to help address disparities in pregnancy outcomes and maternal mortality rates. The county grant program, piloted last year, offers up to $75,000 to two organizations to help provide uninsured and underinsured pregnant residents with non-clinical care. Plus, Hope Mills commissioners have settled on date for next year’s July 4 fireworks show, after hearing concerns and challenges voiced by the Parks and Recreation Department staff.
