Good morning. Children at two schools in Gray’s Creek have not been allowed to drink from the water fountains since it was discovered in 2017 that the schools’ well water is contaminated with cancer-causing PFAS “forever chemicals.”

As a temporary measure, Cumberland County this summer is putting filters on the schools’ water systems to extract the PFAS chemicals. And by June 2026, more than 3.3 miles of water lines from the Fayetteville Public Works Commission should reach the schools. Read more in our lead story today for the latest on the water line expansion.

Welcome to CityView Today. In today’s newsletter: The Cumberland County government is hosting a two-part, free webinar series, beginning tomorrow, to help residents prepare for the next round of requests for proposals for opioid settlement funding in early April. The webinars will teach residents how to establish a 501(3)(c), a tax-exempt nonprofit, and apply for county grants. And Cape Fear Regional Theatre’s production of “Steel Magnolias” opens tonight. The show promises a slice of Southern life, navigating love, friendship and loss, as told through an all-female cast.
