Good morning. An out-of-state residential property investment company wants to build 160 units of duplexes and quadplexes on just over 21 acres near the south end of Rosehill Road. Some home and property owners in nearby neighborhoods are trying to stop it.

At a community meeting on Monday night, several residents raised concerns around the potential for flooding, insufficient parking, increased traffic and more reckless drivers.

Meanwhile, Cumberland County is experiencing a housing shortage, city staff have said, particularly when it comes to choices that are medium-density and affordable.

Next week, Fayetteville City Council will hold a public hearing on a request from the project’s architect to rezone the property from single-family homes to multifamily duplexes and quadplexes. More in today’s lead story.

Welcome to CityView Today. In today’s newsletter: Clear bags will be required at all Cumberland County Schools’ athletic events this year. CityView compiled a list of schools that also require clear or mesh backpacks on campus; check them out below. Plus, Hope Mills will soon see an updated approach to its land use plan — a tool used by local officials to make considerations about development and rezoning cases.
