Good morning. Spring Lake commissioners said Monday they do not want the Town of Fuquay-Varina to take water from the Cape Fear River Basin and move it to the Neuse River Basin.
The Wake County town is asking state environmental officials for permission to withdraw 6.17 million gallons a day from the Cape Fear River Basin to keep up with growth during a 30-year period.
The Fayetteville Public Works Commission opposed the request, citing concerns over long-term impacts like water availability and sustainability since Fuquay-Varina would not return treated water to the Cape Fear Basin. Read more in today’s lead story.
