Good morning. The Town of Hope Mills is under an ongoing investigation by the North Carolina Office of the State Auditor, according to public records obtained by CityView.
The state auditor’s office met with town staff on Aug. 13 “following the receipt of anonymous complaints,” Hope Mills Town Manager Chancer McLaughlin said in an email to CityView. The office is looking into past Hope Mills community events, a budget amendment and town officials’ attendance of a conference in Florida, among other items.

🏆 Part of Gillis Hill Road in the western part of Cumberland County will be widened and improved, the N.C. Department of Transportation announced earlier this month. The segment, around a mile long, will be increased from two to four lanes; the project will also include sidewalk, bicycle lane and median installations. The announcement follows a $17.5 million contract awarded by the NCDOT.
