Otis W. Bates

August 14, 1958 - August 9, 2022

Mr. Otis William Bates was born on August 14, 1958 to the late Oscar and Ella Bates in Concord, NC. Otis was the eldest of two children, whose younger brother Robert Bates (Veronica) proceeded him in death. On Tuesday, August 9th, Otis entered into his eternal resting place.

Otis graduated from West Charlotte High School, in Charlotte, NC in 1976. Upon graduating, Otis immediately enlisted into the United States Army. He served 20 years while completing tours in Korea and in Ger-many. After retiring from the military, Otis was a truck driver for Conway for 18 years. Otis faced many health challenges throughout his life but found pleasure in buying cars, fishing, grilling, talking to his Conway brothers, listening to gospel music and commenting on family’s Face-book posts.

He was a longtime member of Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. And after service he loved to come home and cheer on his Carolina Pan-thers.

Otis leaves behind his loving wife and devoted caregiver of 24 years, Darlene Bates. From this union they were blessed with a blended family; Shakira Everheart (Hondo), Shelbi Miller, and Kalah Miller. From these blessings Otis had seven grandchildren; Eva Buchanon, Daeqwon Bates, Serenity Howard, Damitriuz Everheart, Julianna Everheart, Hondo Ever-heart Jr., Destiny Kershaw and great-grandson Robert Buchanon III. His niece and nephew, Tanica Bost and Robert Bates Jr., and his great-nephew Tymon Holloman, along with a host of cousins and other rela-tives will cherish his memory forever.
