Parrish James Powers went to be with the Lord on June 26, 2023. Parrish was 51 years old. His life would seem too short to many, but those of us who were blessed to be touched by him understand that his existence and the imprint he left on our hearts exceed the quantity of time that he stayed here.
Parrish was an active member in church and, because of his love for God, was always helping others. You only had to ask and Parrish would be there because of his tender and generous heart. He was a devout Republican and made sure in most conversations you knew it. He was also an avid reader, seeking to grow his faith and also enjoyed an occasional political or sci-fi novel. Parrish always had a love for the mountains and enjoyed living in Sylva, N.C., the past 10 years.
Parrish was talented in so many aspects of his life. He served our country in the Army from 1990 to 1994 and later moved on to be an entrepreneur and ran many businesses that he established. Most important, Parrish was a terrific dad. He was an abundant provider who worked tirelessly to ensure a future for his family. Parrish enjoyed trading and selling items with friends he made at flea markets and swap meets. He was always dreaming of new business ventures with his partner and best friend, Jatinder Kumar. Parrish was known to have many rare collectibles that held great value. However, family and children were what he valued most in life.
Parrish was preceded in death by his father, James Powers. He is survived by his children: Hope (20), Allyson (12), Chase (8), and John (5); and a grandson, Bennett (2), all of Sylva, N.C. Parrish is also survived by his mother, Kimberly Gordy Matthews of Whispering Pines, N.C. He was the apple of his mother’s eye from the moment he entered the world on Jan. 14, 1972, as he was her only son. Not a day went by they didn’t talk to each other (many times a day). Parrish is also survived by his siblings, Amy Tabor of Clayton, N.C.; Trevor Powers of Lincolnton, N.C.; Joy Morris of Fayetteville, N.C.; Raegon Falk of Huntersville, N.C.; and Brent Powers of Lincolnton, N.C.; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Epicenter Church at 2512 Fort Bragg Road in Fayettevillle, NC, 28303.
Visitation with the family will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be private.
