Patty Wood Lee McArdle, 76, of Fayetteville went home to be with the Lord on October 16, 2022.

Patty was born to the late Robert Packer and Martha Jane Hester Wood on September 12, 1946 in Bladen County, NC. She is also preceded in death by her step-father Allie Wood; husband, Paul McArdle; brothers, Robert Wood, Neil Wood, Sr., and Freddy Packer.

Patty was a graduate of Pine Forest High School Class of 1964 and was a unique lady who was dedicated to serving the city of Dunn where she retired from the Chamber of Commerce as Executive Vice President. During her tenure, she wore many different hats; she was the president of the I-95 Hospitality Association in the Smithfield Chamber of Commerce, manager of the General William C. Lee Airborne Museum, Economic Director for Dunn, and also served on the executive committee of the Association of United States Army (AUSA). In 1992 Patty was nominated as one of North Carolina’s top women and was honored by Governor James G. Martin and was instrumental in Dunn becoming an “All American City” when she and her group of 48 accepted the challenge from Mayor Oscar Harris to win the prestigious award.

Patty is survived by her children, Sherri Lee Smith and Sherrill Dewayne Lee and his wife Kimberly; Step-children, Beth Sturdivant, Christine Sappington, Paul Albert McArdle, and Patrick McArdle; grandchildren, Ashton Lee Weaver and husband Evan, and Ansley Lee; step-grandchildren, Caroline and McKenzie Sturdivant, Rachel and Ryan Sappington, David McArdle and Ava and Brett McArdle; siblings, Princess LaRouge, Lois Moore and husband Floyd, James Rod Wood, Jimmy Wood, Judy Monroy and husband Tony, Robert Kent Packer and wife Liz, and Greg Packer and his wife Lelia; and many nieces and nephews, family members and friends.

The family would like to extend a deep appreciation to Patty’s caregivers for their dedication and support, Bertha Johnson, Mary Johnson, Patricia Howell, and Florence Malloy.  In lieu of flowers, Patty’s request was donations be sent to an animal rescue organization or First Baptist Church, Fayetteville.

There will be a service remembering Patty’s life on Friday, October 21, 2022 at First Baptist Church, 201 Anderson Street, Fayetteville at 11:30 AM with burial immediately following at LaFayette Memorial Park West.  A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM.  Services are entrusted to Adcock Funeral Home and Crematory, Spring Lake.
