More than 150 people gathered in downtown Fayetteville on Sunday to raise funds to feed the hungry and support efforts to improve food security across the globe.

The Cumberland County CROP Hunger Walk, which celebrated its 35th anniversary, started with activities beside First Baptist Church–Anderson, including packing more than 400 hygiene kits for distribution to people in need. Deesh Watson limbered up participants with a Zumba workout and emcee Gilbert Baez, who hosts WFNC’s “Good Morning, Fayetteville,” kicked off the walk.

The event raised $17,510, which was half of its $35,000 goal. But the walk has raised more than $582,000 in its 35-year history, according to Laura Lupton, coordinator of the Fayetteville walk.

First Baptist and Hay Street United Methodist Church co-hosted the walk, which benefited Fayetteville Urban Ministry and Church World Service.
