Police: 2 sought in connection with assault of restaurant employee

A restaurant employee was severely injured Saturday when he was hit by a car while pursuing two customers who refused to pay their bill, the Fayetteville Police Department said.

The employee, whose name was not released, was working at the Super Wing Station on Francam Drive off Ramsey Street in north Fayetteville when the dispute happened.

Police said two customers refused to pay for their food and left the restaurant. The employee followed them outside.

“During the disturbance in front of the businesses, the suspects drove onto the curb and struck the victim with the vehicle causing severe injuries,’’ police said in a release.

The two left before police arrived.

Police were dispatched to reports of a shooting and a pedestrian being struck. It is not known who fired a weapon, a spokesman said.

The restaurant employee sustained severe head trauma and remains hospitalized. He is listed in stable condition, police said.

Detectives are asking the public for help in identifying or locating the two people involved or the vehicles that were outside the business. The vehicles appear to be a dark-colored Dodge Charger and a mid-2000s model Honda. The front bumper was torn off one of the vehicles when the employee was struck, police said.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Detective A. Wolford at 910-705-2141 or Crimestoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477).
