Posted

A Fayetteville man who was hurt in a vehicle crash last week on Skibo Road has died of his injuries, the Fayetteville Police Department said Tuesday.

Police identified the man as Charles Leneave, 82, of the 2400 block of Dartmouth Drive.

Leneave was involved in a two-vehicle crash at Skibo and Campground roads around 2:40 p.m. on Feb. 9, police said in a release.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Mercedes operated by Bruce Gipson, 44, of the 500 block of Standingstone Drive, entered the intersection while the traffic signal for his direction of travel was red, police said.

Police said Gipson’s vehicle collided head-on with a 1998 Chevrolet operated by Leneave, who had a green light for his direction of travel.

Leneave was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Police said they learned Monday that Leneave had died as a result of his injuries. His family has been notified.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Police are asking anyone who has information about the crash to contact Officer C. Biggerstaff with the Traffic Unit at 910-751-1382 or Cumberland Count Crimestoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477).
