Update: Police ID victim, make arrest in Sunday morning shooting death


A Fayetteville man has been charged in the shooting death of a city resident early Sunday on the 5700 block of Weatherford Road.

Gary Duncan, 52, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Trenton Douglas, 48, of Milford Drive, according to the Fayetteville Police Department. Duncan, of the 5700 block of Weatherford Road, is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond.

The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. Douglas was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed a disturbance took place inside the residence prior to the shooting, the Police Department said. Douglas and Duncan knew each other, police said.

Detectives are asking that anyone in the area with security camera footage that may have captured the shooting to notify the Police Department.
