The Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a homicide that occurred along the 200 block of B Street in Fayetteville just after midnight on Tuesday.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area at approximately 12:36 a.m. Tuesday. Upon arriving on scene, officers located one adult male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The deceased male has been identified as Ricky Pernell McMillian Jr., a 39-year-old Black male of Fayetteville. His family has been notified.
The second male victim who was in the car at the time of the carjacking has been located and is safe.
A preliminary investigation revealed the victim drove to the area of B Street. An unknown suspect approached the victim’s vehicle demanding the keys at gunpoint. The unknown suspect shot the victim multiple times and fled the scene in the victim's vehicle, a white Dodge Challenger Hellcat with a black hood. Another possible victim was inside of the vehicle during the carjacking.
This is an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
