Police issue warning about recent ATM robberies, urge caution after dark

Recent robberies of people using ATMs have prompted a warning from the Fayetteville Police Department.

Police urge anyone using a teller machine after dark to be aware of their surroundings, according to a news release.

Within the past 30 days, the department has received three reports of personal robberies occurring at ATMs. All the incidents were in the area of Cross Creek Mall during nighttime hours, the release said.

In each case, the robber was a man wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt pulled over his head, dark pants, dark shoes, and a dark mask. He brandishes a handgun at the victims while demanding money, the release said.

The suspect has been described as having a slender build, being about 5 feet tall, and having a tan complexion, the release said.

Suspicious activity should be reported to 911.

Anyone with information about ATM robberies is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477) or Detective B. Pleze at 910-433-1876.
