
The Rev. William “Roy” McLamb, 79, of Linden, peacefully entered his heavenly home on August 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Barefoot McLamb, and father, William Irving McLamb; brothers Jerry, John Irving and Wayne; father-in-law, Sanford Maynor; mother-in-law, Joyce Maynor; brothers-in-law, Woody McLamb and James Allen; and mentors, Dr. Ralph Richardson and Charles Nobles.
Preacher Roy is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Dorothy McLamb; a son, Keith McLamb of Fayetteville; daughter-in-law ,Kris McLamb of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Melodie McLamb of Seattle, Washington, and Matthew McLamb and Mindy McLamb of Fayetteville; brother, Larry McLamb (Earlene), of Pine Bluff; sisters, Erma Jean Sorrell of Coats, Helen McLamb of Lillington, Monnie Lee (Barry) of Coats, and Barbara Beasley (Rev. Tony) of Coats; brother-in-law, Gary Maynor (Regenia) of Lumberton; sisters-in-law, Wanda Allen of Saginaw, Michigan; Betty Arthur (Bill) of Spearfish, South Dakota; Sharon Casto (Ed) of Erwin, North Carolina; and Kim Emanuel (Junior) of Red Springs, North Carolina; 28 nieces and nephews; 52 great-nieces and nephews; 12 great-great-nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and dear friends.
Preacher Roy was humbly devoted to God’s work. He and Dot served as certified prison chaplains with the state of North Carolina for 10 years, helped inmates’ transition back into society and served as substance abuse counselors while he also attended Carolina College of Biblical Studies in Fayetteville to obtain his bachelor’s degree in biblical atudies. He was called to pastor Flatwoods Baptist Church in Lillington, where he served for four and a half years. Pastor Roy was contacted by the Rev. Dan Deaton, director of missions for Little River Baptist Association, to start a church in the Overhills area. He was a founder and pastor of Overhills Community Baptist Church for 15 years before retiring due to health issues. He had a passion for children being taught about salvation and the love of Jesus Christ. His hobbies included watching rodeos, and he also enjoyed the outdoors and working with his goats, peacocks, chickens, and guineas with the help of his niece Eden and nephews Noah, Kaleb, Kayden, Kasen and Laken.
Mrs. Dot would like to extend her deepest gratitude to Sue Matthews and the Flat Branch Fire Department for their aid during Preacher Roy’s illness.
