HOPE MILLS — Richard Homan “Dickie” Swanson III died Sept. 8, 2023, at his home.
Dickie was the second child born to Richard H Swanson Jr. and Margaret Davis Swanson. He spent most of his life in Hope Mills. He enjoyed a successful athletic career at South View High School (Class of 1979). Dickie excelled in football and baseball.
Those who knew Dickie remember a free spirit who always recognized the good in others, laughed often, and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his mother and his sister, Deborah Swanson Hinton. Left to cherish his memory are his father, brother Tommy Swanson (Kay) of Angier; nephew Holden Swanson; and nieces Kelsie Hinton, Joanna Hinton, and Andrea Swanson.
Visitation will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at Hope Mills Methodist Church followed by a celebration of life service at 3:30.
