Mr. Roger Manuel Vazquez, 56, of Red Springs, NC, died Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Scotland Memorial Hospital, Laurinburg, NC. 

Roger was born December 9, 1966, in Newark, NJ, to the late Rogers Manuel Vazquez and Elia Palma Vazquez.  He served in the US Army with experience including:  Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, the 82nd Airborne Division, and the 3rd Brigade Combat Team.  Military special recognitions include:  the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with Valor, Expert Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Parachutist Badge, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.  Roger’s hobbies and interests included:  fishing, woodworking, cooking, firearms, muscle cars, and playing the guitar.   

Roger is survived by his wife, Linda Vazquez; daughters, Nikita Hughes and Jesse Vazquez; sons, Dakota Vazquez and Max Carpenter; sisters, Alina Iglesias and Teresa Vazquez; and three grandchildren.   

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd., Spring Lake, NC, 28390, beginning at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
