Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity

Ron Gunter’s entire career has been one of service and hard work. Before his tenure at Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity, he was pastor of several churches, and he and his wife, Cynthia, served as missionaries in Eastern Europe. Upon their return to the states in 2002, Ron worked with the Baptist General Convention of Texas and then with the Florida Baptist Children’s Home, leading its international work. Throughout his career, he has developed a reputation for being a hard-working leader who believes strongly in teamwork.

In 2019, Ron was recruited to join the Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity affiliate as the chief operating officer, pulling him and his wife out of retirement. Ron’s arrival to Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity could not have come at a better time. Shortly after his arrival, he moved into the role of chief executive officer. Under his leadership, Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity (FAHFH) officially began construction of Oakridge Estates, a community of 47 newly constructed homes for families in Cumberland County, nine of which belong to veterans and more than 15 that are designated for families directly impacted by Hurricanes Matthew and Florence. Oakridge Estates is scheduled for completion in June of this year.

Ron expanded the geographic footprint of FAHFH into Bladen and Sampson counties. In addition to the homes constructed in Oakridge Estates, new homes have been built in Bladen and Sampson counties, and more than 100 critical home repairs have been completed on the homes of veterans and those impacted by Hurricanes Matthew and Florence. His impact and faithful work can be seen throughout the Fayetteville area, as well as Bladen and Sampson counties.

Ron credits the success of Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity to the thriving and hard-working team at Habitat. He has cultivated strong relationships with the city of Fayetteville, the Cumberland Community Foundation, the N.C. Housing Finance Agency, and several faith groups around the community. He believes that the key to making a true difference is by doing it together as a team. He believes in empowering his employees and board of directors, leading with integrity and transparency, and always erring “on the side of grace.” He is truly blessed with his wife, Cynthia, as they have been a true partnership in all aspects of their personal and professional lives for over 40 years.

At the end of June 2022, Ron will officially retire (again). The Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity has voted for Ron to pass the torch to Brandon Price, the organization’s current advocacy and compliance officer. Ron is confident that the foundation he has laid will flourish and thrive under Brandon’s leadership. The Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity staff, volunteers, board of directors, and family thank Ron for his dedicated service.
