A man who was arrested at the Cumberland County Courthouse on an outstanding warrant was later charged with child abuse when authorities learned he left a 2-year-old alone in a vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Sebastian V. Bailey, 25, of Erwin, was arrested Friday by deputies at the courthouse on an outstanding warrant charging him with larceny by an employee and possession of stolen property, the Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

When Bailey was taken into custody, he told deputies he left a 2-year-old who was not related to him alone in his vehicle while he went to court, the release said. Deputies found the child, who did not need medical attention. The toddler was placed in the care of a family member, the release said.

Bailey was charged with misdemeanor child abuse. He was taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center, where he appeared before a magistrate. He was released with a $5,500 unsecured bond, the release said.
