Speed limits to be reduced on busy stretches of Fayetteville roads

Drivers will have to slow down to stay within the speed limit on sections of some of Fayetteville’s busiest roadways.

New speed limits will be enforced on parts of Cliffdale Road; Pamalee Drive and Country Club Drive; and Stoney Point Road beginning Wednesday, according to a news release from the city. The changes were approved by the City Council on June 13.

The roads affected and the new speed limits are:

• Cliffdale Road between Raeford and Reilly roads, 45 mph. The current speed limit is 50 mph.
• Pamalee and Country Club drives between Bragg Boulevard and Ramsey Street, 45 mph. The current limit is 50 mph.
• Stoney Point Road between Dundle Road and the Hoke County Line, 45 mph. The current limit is 55 mph.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation approved the changes. Crews will post new speed limit signs on Wednesday, according to the release.

On Monday, city traffic crews will place temporary electronic message boards alerting drivers to the new speed limits at Pamalee and Country Club drives. DOT will place message boards on Cliffdale Road.

The Fayetteville Police Department, along with law enforcement agencies across the state, participated in the “Speeding Wrecks Lives” campaign through Sunday, the news release said. The national initiative was in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and aimed to step up enforcement of speeding laws.

As of Friday, Fayetteville police officers had stopped 160 drivers for violations since the campaign began on July 18.
