Starbucks Foundation Awards Hiring Our Heroes the "Opportunity for All" Grant


We are proud to announce that The Starbucks Foundation has awarded Hiring Our Heroes a 2017 “Opportunity for All” grant for $15,000! With this investment, Hiring Our Heroes and In Gear Career will further its impact in the community, continuing to help Veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses find meaningful employment opportunities.


The community was invited to the Military Family Store at Cross Creek Mall on August 16th at 11:00 AM to celebrate the ongoing work of Hiring Our Heroes in supporting Veterans.
  • They hosted an open house for Starbucks partners (employees), Hiring Our Heroes staff, volunteers, civic leaders, and other special guests, kicked off the event with a ceremonial Starbucks coffee tasting.
  • Beyond great coffee and conversation, the event was a great opportunity to hear and capture remarks from leaders at Hiring Our Heroes and Starbucks.
  • Interviews were made available to Veterans and military spouses who have benefited from the partnership and key spokespeople
  • And most importantly, they celebrated the young men and women who were inspired and supported by Hiring Our Heroes to pursue and achieve their potential.

The Starbucks Foundation has a long legacy of investing in communities. Building on over 20 years of giving, they were proud to honor Hiring Our Heroes and support their work in Fayetteville.

Starbucks Foundation Mission

We started in 1997 by funding literacy programs in the United States and Canada. Today we’re supporting communities around the globe.

The Starbucks Foundation gave $6.9 million in 2015, making 128 grants to nonprofit organizations. Grants included $3 million for Starbucks Opportunity for Youth Grants and $1.5 million in social development grants.

In 2015 Starbucks Corporation gave $29 million in cash, including $14 million to the Starbucks Foundation. Corporate giving included funding for community-building programs – including the Global Fund through our partnership with (RED)™ and other efforts – and $29.3 million in in-kind contributions.

Hiring Our Heroes Mission

Hiring Our Heroes, a program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, launched in March 2011 as a nationwide initiative to help veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses find meaningful employment opportunities. Working with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s vast network of state and local chambers and strategic partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, our goal is to create a movement across America in hundreds of communities where veterans and military families return every day.

Early on, our team adopted two strategies: (1) grassroots engagement and (2) public-private partnerships. Through our commitment-based engagement of the business community, more than 1,025 job fairs held across the country and on military installations overseas, and a suite of free online career tools, we’ve worked with our partners to help hundreds of thousands of veterans and military spouses find jobs.

To date, more than 31,000 veterans and military spouses have obtained employment opportunities through Hiring Our Heroes events. More than 2,000 companies of all sizes have committed to hire 710,000 veterans and military spouses as part of the Hiring 500,000 Heroes campaign. Of those commitments, there have been more than 505,000 confirmed hires.
