It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Carl Kulig on December 11, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. His kind, generous nature is missed by all who loved him.

Steve was born to Al and Shirley Kulig on June 18, 1960 in Youngstown, Ohio. As a young child, he lived in Germany, then moved to Fayetteville, NC. Steve excelled in sports, playing both basketball and baseball at EE Smith High School. Steve continued his education obtaining his MBA from Appalachian State University. Steve focused his career on Information Technology, developing several successful software systems. He devoted much of his career to improving software utilized by our Law Enforcement Agencies. Supporting the officers in the field was his primary goal. Steve held all Law Enforcement Officers with utmost respect.

Steve was preceded in death by his mother and father and his friends Ricky Miller and Zane Kusilka. He is survived by Mary Bostic Kulig, the mother of his children; his two boys who he loved with all his heart, JC Hayes of Black Mountain, NC and Zachary Hayes (wife Caroline) of Weaverville, NC; his two grandchildren, Carter Hayes and Bayliss Hayes; his brother-in-law, Milton Bostic, Jr (wife Junita) and his niece, Natashia Bostic Williams (husband Michael).

Steve leaves behind many close friends. His friendships include those he grew up with in Fayetteville. These friendships are deep and long lasting. He also has many friends from his time in college, those he met during his career and those he met on the golf course. Many of these friends were more like brothers to Steve. Steve always put others first, was loyal, and above all, was always kind to everyone. He was there to help others, giving of himself without hesitation. Steve had an inner strength, a strong faith and belief in Jesus. He will be forever missed and always loved.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 21 from 4-6pm at Highland Country Club in Fayetteville, NC.
