At the library, we understand how challenging it can be for homeschool families to find fun, enriching activities for the kids. That’s why we are so excited to tell you about the programs and resources offered by Cumberland County Public Library just for homeschoolers.
Do you want your kids to learn about science and technology? The North Regional Library, located at 855 McArthur Road in Fayetteville, offers a monthly Homeschool STEM program all year long with exciting books, games, hands-on experiments and crafts for grades kindergarten through fifth.
Join us at 10 a.m. on June 24 for “Take My Breath Away,” where your child can learn about the respiratory system by making a working artificial lung craft.
And at 10 a.m. July 29, we will present “How to Speak Robot” where kids will have the chance to write their own programs for our new robotics kits, including Ozobots, Sphero and Dash robots.
The Bordeaux Library located at 3711 Village Drive will present Homeschool programs inspired by Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” Check out the Crafty Science program at 2 p.m. on June 5 to learn all about fungi and make your own mushroom pal. Then on at 2 p.m. July 3, you can explore neuroscience through dreams and personalize your own dream journal.
For families with teenagers, be sure to visit the Spring Lake Library located at 101 Laketree Blvd., on June 3, July 1 and Aug. 5 for the Teen Engineer program. In this program, kids will use their imagination and ingenuity by combining Cubelet robots with Legos to construct and test their own robots to perform functions.
Check our calendar online to see which homeschool programs and events are happening near you.
In addition to programs, our Library Resource Guide for Homeschoolers includes links to local community resources, support groups and co-ops for homeschoolers. The resource guide also has helpful links and contact information for teaching and tutoring resources, field trip destinations and even college preparation materials. You can access the Library Resource Guide at https://cumberland.lib.nc.libguides.com/homeschool.
So come and visit your local library this summer to see how we can make homeschooling more fun for the kids and a little bit easier for their parents.
