Sweet Tea Shakespeare’s folk music show to celebrate Christmas season

Posted

Sweet Tea Shakespeare will present a program of folk Christmas music for three nights beginning Thursday.

“Behold: A Folk Christmas Cantata” will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 1601 Raeford Road.

Tickets are $22.

The show is a mix of songs from Andrew Peterson’s “Behold the Lamb of God” album and music by The Oh Hellos folk group, according to the theater company’s website.

The show also will feature original writing and choral works.

Locally brewed beer, wine, a signature cocktail, and light snacks will be available.

Singer-songwriter Peterson released “Behold the Lamb of God,” his fifth album, in 2004. Each December, he travels the country with guest musicians in a concert of storytelling songs, culminating with a performance at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

The Oh Hellos are brother-and-sister team Tyler Heath and Maggie Heath. The indie folk-rock duo is from San Marcos, Texas, and their music has been featured on the TV show “Parenthood.”
