Fayetteville is the largest neighbor to the largest military installation in the world, Fort Liberty. Fort Liberty has more generals than any other location in the country outside Washington, D.C. The base and its workforce are vital to national security.

City Council members say their attendance at the annual Congressional City Conference was a worthwhile effort. The cost for the city officials to attend the conference, according to a city spokesman, was $21,974. Registration fees came in at $5,200; hotel accommodations, at $12,041; and travel, at $4,733.
