The Women’s Giving Circle of Cumberland County, a fund of Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc. announced the awarding of grants for 2017-2018 at the home of Denise Lynch, Wednesday, July 12 at 5:30 P.M.
Grant awards for this year total $50,715.00. The selected projects focus on homelessness among women and children, food insecurity among women and children, and increasing reading proficiency through 3rd grade for children in low-income schools.
Since inception in 2008, the Giving Circle has awarded $437,646.83 in grants to nonprofit organizations in Cumberland County to benefit women and children in need.
This year’s grants provide funding to:
Alms House, Inc. - $12,000 to support their Kids Assistance Program which is a collaborative community program operated by the ALMS House that is designed to serve elementary, middle and high school students in the Hope Mills area who are faced with food insecurity and may go without food over the weekend without this backpack food program.
Connections of Cumberland County, Inc. - $26,000 to support housing assistance and case management through a comprehensive and long term in nature approach that focuses on the needs of homeless women and their children.
Fayetteville Urban Ministry, Inc. - $10,715 to support empowering women living in poverty to improve their life situations and that of their dependent children through basic skills training and employment while addressing food insecurity.
St. Ann Neighborhood Youth Center - $2,000 to support this outreach program that provides meals, academic tutoring and other cultural enhancement for girls and boys residing in the surrounding low income public housing developments and impoverished neighborhoods by providing reading level materials and food.
Founded in 2008, the Women’s Giving Circle is an organization of women whose purpose is to impact substantial, positive change for women and children in Cumberland County through philanthropy and education. The Circle includes more than 110 women. Funds are held and maintained by the Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc. Membership is open to all women in Cumberland County. .
