“Homeless. Anything helps.”

We often see these words written on cardboard, held by a person who is down on their luck. We may wonder what happened that led them to where they are today and every person would likely have a different story to tell. If you had to guess, the majority would mention a moment or series of experiences that were stressful, frightening, or distressing. An experience that was out of their control or caused difficulty coping afterward. Trauma. Most people experiencing homelessness have also likely experienced trauma, which can be debilitating. Trauma can cause you to feel stuck and unable to move forward in life.

At Inasmuch, we are known for our breakfast program and humanitarian services (showers, medical triage, or laundry). Yes, they provide a reprieve from the difficulties of life for our Inasmuch Family, but Inasmuch is so much more!

For men living in The Living Hope program at Inasmuch, they are provided a place of rest, life skill classes, group and individual counseling, and support toward a life of self-reliance. Still, trauma can be a barrier to getting them into the next phase of life. The best laid plans and firmest of foundations can still be shaken if trauma is not addressed and overcome. Through prayer and financial support, Inasmuch will soon add Trauma Recovery to the list of services of the Living Hope Program.

This is why we are hosting our 17th annual Bread ‘n Bowls event from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church (701 Westmont Dr.). Proceeds from Bread ‘n Bowls benefit the ministry of Inasmuch and will specifically help us build out the Trauma Recovery component of the Living Hope Program. Depending on the lunch option you choose, you can enjoy a bread bowl of soup or chili, salad bar, brownie, and drink. The highlight of the event is the pottery bowls painted after breakfast one morning by the Inasmuch Breakfast Family. Group rates and free delivery is available for orders of 10 or more until midnight on Tuesday. We are also hosting a 50/50 Raffle where you do not have to be present to win.

If you believe that every person is made in the Image of God and is deserving of the opportunity to overcome life’s challenges and secure their own future… come break bread with us on Thursday. We can’t wait to see you there!
