Not last year’s library: Updates for improved patron experience

Posted

The Bordeaux Community Library has recently undergone an impressive transformation. If you haven’t been to the Bordeaux Library in a while, we invited you to come in and see the new experience for yourself.

One notable change is the conversion of the former computer room into a lively children’s area.  Our smallest patrons can interact with the play kitchen and make elaborate Strawbees creations while caregivers read to little ones next to the calming bubble wall.  Adjacent to this area, a new teen gathering space has been established where the phenomenon of teens studying, engaging in card games, besting their opponent in tic-tac-toe, or simply expressing themselves through doodling on whiteboard tables can be observed.

Explore the stacks of our books and you will notice a more spacious arrangement for our fiction collection, providing a leisurely browsing experience and an easier search for your next novel to enjoy. To enhance the browsing atmosphere, we’ve relocated newspapers and other media to the back of the library, accompanied by an adult seating area.

The Bordeaux Community Library’s redesign journey began in late July when the skylight was refreshed. Repositioning shelves introducing a small seating area under the skylight brightened the space and created an inviting, open ambiance at the center of the library.

Throughout the reconfiguration, we have prioritized preserving the elements that make our space a vital part of the community. Our story time sessions for ages 0 – 5 is at 10:30 each Monday morning provide a nurturing environment for early childhood development.

In addition, our dedicated Youth Librarian staff members offer engaging programs such as Classic Kid Lit and Crafty Science, tailored for ages 6 – 11. CommuniTeen, a monthly program held on Saturdays, gives teenagers opportunities to volunteer and forge connections with peers.

Our Adult Librarian staff continues to offer captivating craft projects and engaging programs. Visit the library’s website at cumberlandcountync.gov/library to stay updated on events and activities at Bordeaux Community Library. Check out the calendar for more information.

Despite all the changes that have taken place over the past year, including welcoming new faces behind the desks, one thing remains constant — our staff’s unwavering commitment to providing assistance. Whether it’s printing out a return label, navigating the setup of your Libby account, or helping you find the next book in your favorite series, you can always rely on us to be there for you.

Bordeaux Community Library is located at 3711 Village Dr., Fayetteville. The phone number is 910-483-7727, extension 1381.
