Ace Hardware store coming to former Stein Mart space at Highland Center
A new Ace Hardware store is set to open in March in part of the space formerly occupied by Stein Mart in Highland Center shopping center on Raeford Road.
Loriβs Ace Home & Hardware will be in Suite 24A at 2800 Raeford Road, according to a news release. It will occupy nearly 20,000 square feet of the space that once housed Stein Mart department store.
The rest of the space will be available for other businesses. Renovations are underway.
Loriβs Ace Home & Hardware will sell paint, grills and outdoor power equipment, along with patio furniture; home and garden decor and gifts; childrenβs toys and games; kitchen and bath accessories; wild bird food and accessories; and live plants, the news release said.
It will be the first Ace store for owners Lori Tracy Stobbe and Nate Stobbe, who moved to Fayetteville from Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, in June. They opened an Ace Handyman Services franchise in September, providing skilled help for home repair and improvement projects, the release said.
Lori Stobbe has over 25 years of experience leading and developing marketing and communications for national, regional and local businesses. Nate has over 30 years of experience in construction and manufacturing management, according to the release.

Wana Navu Kava Bar to serve non-alcoholic and CBD-infused beverages
Wana Navu Kava Bar is hosting a grand opening this weekend at 500 N. Reilly Road, No. 106.
The opening began Saturday and will continue from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release. Admission is free for the grand opening.
Wana Navu Kava Bar will serve a mix of all-natural, non-alcoholic beverages including fresh kava, kratom tea, CBD-infused beverages, delta-8 & 9 soda, locally sourced kombucha, herbal tea, and coffee, according to the release.

$25,000 grant presented to Methodist University nursing program
The Robert P. Holding Foundation has donated $25,000 to Methodist Universityβs nursing program, according to a news release.
Methodist has offered a prelicensure bachelor of science in nursing degree since 2010 and has expanded to offer an online registered nurse to bachelorβs degree; an online masterβs degree in nursing; and online graduate certificate in nursing education, the release said.
The foundation is named for Robert Powell Holding Sr., who was president and chairman of First Citizens Bank in Smithfield from 1935 to 1957. Since 1955, it has contributed millions of dollars to support health care and higher education in North Carolina.
Local agricultural educator selected for national award
Paul Young Jr., an agricultural educator at Cape Fear High School, recently received the 2022 National Association of Agricultural Educators Teachers Turn the Key Scholarship Award, Cumberland County Schools said in a release.
He was one of 33 agricultural educators nationwide to be recognized during the 2022 NAAE Convention in Las Vegas, the release said. The convention was Nov. 29-Dec.3.
The Teachers Turn the Key scholarship brings together agricultural educators with three to five years of experience and immerses them in five days of professional development that addresses issues specific to the early years of teaching agriculture, the release said.Β
Organizations may apply for free bike helmets
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is giving free bicycle helmets to organizations across the state to give to young cyclists as part of an initiative to encourage more children to wear the protective headgear.
Organizations must apply online with NCDOTβs Integrated Mobility Division by 5 p.m. Feb. 4.
Outstanding Teacher of the Gifted announced
Cumberland County Schools Academically-Intellectually Gifted Program recently announced Sarena Myers as the 2022-23 CCS Outstanding Teacher of the Gifted.
Myers was nominated by her peers to represent the district at the 48th Annual N.C. Association for the Gifted and Talented Conference in March, the school system said in a release.
